“Ripley’s Believe it or Not” is one of the weirdest, coolest TV programmes from the ’80s. Jack Palance (who has amazing Polish cheekbones) was the grandmaster of hammy intros, as this clip expertly demonstrates. This intro includes the crazy lady who dressed her pet turtle in a negligee, which continues to haunt my memories.
Also mighty - Henry Mancini’s theme tune for the series. It sounds like a Bond theme crossed with a Toyota commercial.
