Several of my favourite things

Notes

This is a compilation of all of Kylie Minogue’s music videos, spanning 25 years of pop. Why, I fondly remember reading about the video shoot for “Locomotion” in Smash Hits. After having watched the 17-minute extravaganza, I have the following observations to make:

  • That HI-NRG Stock Aiken Waterman stuff was pretty good, actually.
  • Kylie suddenly gets really good hair in “Better the Devil You Know”. She was my hair idol in the early ’90s. And I almost had it at one stage.
  • What the hell was going on from 1992-1994? A cover of “Celebration”? Madonna-inspired sexual lady?
  • 1995; Nick Cave; problem solved.
  • “Spinning Around” was the new era of disco Kylie, also showing all the teen girls how to do the hotpants thing.
  • “Kids” is an amazing song, especially with those slidey harmonies.
  • Last seen in the ’80s, the curls return for “Can’t Get You out of my Head”, one of the greatest pop songs ever.
  • Kylie gives the camera good sexface.
  • The “All I See” video is like a rehearsal tape of a Madonna video from the ’90s.
  • What the hell is that “Chiggy Wiggy” thing? Kylie, you’re from Melbourne, not the ghetto.
  • Kylie is strangely absent from her two most recent videos.
