New Zealand’s Got Talenet’s got judges
The judges for New Zealand’s Got Talent have been announced. They are Ali Campbell, Rachel Hunter and Jason Kerrison aka Him From UB40, Our Rach and That Guy From Opshop. Here’s their grand unveiling on Close Up, where Jason actually seems to be in the early stages of hypothermia.
It’s an interesting line-up. There’s a bona fide reggae-pop star from a UK band that has always had a lot of success in New Zealand. There’s a New Zealand model turned American model turned celebrity wife turned reality TV regular. And there’s a reasonably successful New Zealand singer-songwriter who’s building a shelter to ensure his survival when the world ends on 21 December.
Now, being that this is New Zealand, I’m actually pretty pleased with this line-up. It’s very very adequate. Rach has never been a verbal gangsta so I’m not expecting her to be a Sharon Osborne, but I think the three of them will be perfectly fine judges.
But there’s something missing. The Got Talent format isn’t just about singing. It’s about variety. So in theory there’ll also be performers like be dancers, comedians, jugglers, magicians and animal acts. Weird stuff. The panel is missing someone who is a more comedic entertainer. I was thinking a funny female performer would perfectly round out the panel, maybe someone like a Jackie Clarke or a Jan Maree. Even Anika Moa is hilarious. Because as well as having professional experience in non-singing performing arts, such a person could bring the lolz. And a show like this needs the lolz.
